Youth Orchestra Day in Los Angeles, Feb. 28, 2010

Russell Steinberg, artistic director of the Los Angeles Youth Orchestra, talks about the area’s first-ever Youth Orchestra Day. The event will featurte four of the areas top youth music groups, the Los Angeles Youth Orchestra, Verdugo Youth Musicians Association, Pasadena Young Musicians Orchestra and Olympia Youth Orchestra. Each group will play inividually, then all the groups — over 400 players in all — will combine for a performance of the Youth Orchestra Anthem, a new piece composed by Steinberg, specially-commissioned for the event. Between the various musical performances, the event will also include three separate panel discussions with music conductors, students, coaches and professional musicians about becoming a musical success in todays world.
